We’ve read about Teetotum Hotel in the Rough Guide and since we were visiting the nearby pueblo, we thought of giving it a try. It was lunchtime and we were starving. Teetotum Hotel is situated on the main road that connects Tulum pueblo to the beach and zona hotelera.
It’s funny how it works: you decide to visit a new place, have absolutely no idea what it looks like and how it’s going to be, you enter, sit down, relax, and all of a sudden, all elements just fit together like a jigsaw puzzle to create a memorable experience: cool people that have the time to chat with you, simple but delicious food, great ambience, and fabulous decor that looks as if it popped out from Wallpaper magazine straight into the Yucatan jungle. This is what Teetotum Hotel is about.
We also had a look at the rooms, which were stylish in a minimalistic, almost Scandinavian manner. At the courtyard, you will find a plunge pool and comfy sofas for lounging, while in the evenings, you might want to climb the stairs to the roof garden for a sundowner.
One small minus is the distance from the beach, but they provide free bikes for the guests and there is a new cycling path-shady for the most part- that leads directly to the ocean. Great way to burn some calories before indulging to a cheese quesadilla!
